On the Hunt with Ellora’s Cave Authors

wantedonthehuntWhen Ellora’s Cave posted a call for books in the On the Hunt theme, I couldn’t wait to get started. Hot books with bounty hunters? Sign me up!

And fortunately or unfortunately, depending on whether you asked me in November or December, I chose to work on this book during National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. This is a month where authors pledge to write a 50,000 word novel in November. On November 1st, I was raring go to. On November 4th, I thought I made a mistake. How on earth could I do this? I must have been out of my mind.

The more bloodshot my eyes grew and the more sleep-deprived I became, I started to see the end of the tunnel. Although I wasn’t sure I could even write 20,000 words at the beginning of the month, during the last week, I started to have fun with it. The more the characters revealed themselves to me, the more I loved the story. The premise I thought was fun–a young woman reinventing herself as a singer of an 80s metal band–my dream as a 16 year old, ha ha! Well, she happened to be a vampire and had no idea that a shapeshifting bounty hunter was tracking her down.

What was even more fun for me was how the characters clashed. Vampires and shapeshifters didn’t mix. Both Devon and Layla approached each other with caution as the enemy they were supposed to loathe. Their taunts were only a ruse to cover the mutual attraction they had for each other.

A forbidden attraction.

Below is the blurb for Bloodlust and Metal, the fourth book in my series with Ellora’s Cave called Underground Encounters. Enter my contest for a chance to win a digital copy of Bloodlust and Metal. Be sure to comment on what what think is hot/not so hot about bounty hunters.

Check out the other authors in this hunt. I’ve read the blurbs and can’t wait to read these hot bounty hunter stories.

And if you’re going to Romanticon in November, come check out our panel: Go on the Hunt with Ellora’s Cave authors. You’ll be going on a fun hunt yourself and could walk away with some great prizes!

Book 4 in the Underground Encounters series On the run from a master vampire, young vampire Layla Black flees London to reinvent herself as the singer of an Eighties cover band in Boston. Devon St. Clair is the bounty hunter hired to track her down. As a shapeshifter with extraordinary skills, his reputation is known throughout the supernatural world. Capturing Layla should be an easy gig that will net a nice profit. The situation doesn’t go as Devon plans. He wants Layla in his bed, but shapeshifters and vampires don’t mix. They should hate each other, but instead they’re keeping the sheets steamy. When circumstances force them on the run together, their preconceived notions are challenged. If they can evade those hunting them and convince his fellow shapeshifters to help her even though she’s a vampire, they just might have a chance to explore where all that hot, sweaty sex can take them. A.S. Fenichel on American Idol and Writing Believable Fiction

Today we have a special guest post from the lovely A.S. Fenichel, who is discussing American Idol and writing believable fiction. She will also tell us about Kane’s Bounty, part of the On the Hunt theme from Ellora’s Cave. Welcome, A.S.!

Thanks for inviting me to your blog Lisa. I’m happy to be here to celebrate the release of my first full length novel, Kane’s Bounty. This is one book in a series, bounty hunter themed books releasing throughout the month of May from Ellora’s Cave Publishing.

The other night I was watching American Idol. I’m totally addicted to the show and have even gotten my husband hooked. The judges this year have been hounding the contestants every week about connecting with the songs. They have talked about singing from the heart. They have droned on about connecting with the audience. I find myself yelling at the television that they should just move on.

A recent interview question got me thinking about this focus on making a connection. The question was: how would you describe your writing style? I didn’t know how to answer. I would never try. I thought it through for a long time before answering honestly, “I write from my heart and I hope people will connect to the story and the characters.”

I guess I can’t holler at the American Idol judges anymore for boring me with the same comments every week. They have the right of it. It’s all about making that connection. It doesn’t matter what I’m writing, every person in my book has to mean something to me. Some of them I hate with a passion and some I love and wish I could have coffee and a chat with. My Hero in KANE’S BOUNTY, I’d like to bring home for a night or two. He’s hot! 😉

I sincerely believe that if I didn’t have love, hate, admiration, envy, or pity for them, they would fall flat for the readers.

Here’s the back cover from Kane’s Bounty. Enjoy!

Kane’s Bounty

kanesbounty_msrTelepathic bounty hunter Kane has one rule—never get involved with a fugitive.

It’s a simple assignment with good money at the end. Picking Lena up is no problem. Protecting her when her ex-husband, mercenaries and another bounty hunter threaten her turns into the fight of their lives.

Together, the Stones of Adeline and Lena are powerful magic. She never considered the complication of the sexy bounty hunter and her undeniable desire for him. Their paranormal bond will need to be strong if they’re to survive together.
