It would be their first Christmas together. Antoine decorated the castle in preparation for Savannah’s return from her university.

“In the ten years I’ve known you, not once have I seen you hang a bulb on the tree,” Cameron remarked.

Cameron was the manager of the Les Beaux Art at the Chateau DeRoche and Antoine’s loyal friend. Cameron took care of the daily operations of the art colony while Antoine was forced to seek cover from the sunlight.

“Haven’t had anyone to share it with,” he replied.

When had Antoine last enjoyed celebrating the holiday with anyone? Likely not since he’d been a young gargoyle shifter with his family, before he’d been forced to turn over a century ago. Cameron gave him a slow nod. “I know what you mean.” Although human, he’d mated to a wolf shifter named Nadya this summer.

Savannah would have a month off in between college semesters. A month that he planned to exploit to the fullest each night, acting out all his fantasies. She stayed in Boston during the week to attend graduate classes and returned to the island on weekends. Earning her degree was important to her, so he tried not to express how he missed her too often. The bed was too cold, too big. The light all but gone in the chateau. Once she earned her Master’s degree in June, he’d have her all to himself.

He wouldn’t be able to attend her graduation, which would take place outside during the day. But after she graduated, she’d return to the island and they’d continue the discussion that had been plaguing them. The last time they’d tried to talk about it, it had ended in a heated argument before she’d returned to school. She didn’t understand the sacrifices involved. Already, she’d given up so much to be his lover.

He would show her how much she meant to him when she returned. He’d learned patience over the decades, only it seemed more difficult when it came to Savannah. She visited family and was taking care of a few things before she returned to the island. Only two more nights. Just in time for Christmas. The hours trudged past until finally it was time for her arrival.

Although the December nights were colder, they were also longer, which gave him more time outdoors. With the sun setting so early, he was able to trek over to the dock on the other side of DeRoche Island on the evening of the twenty-third to greet Savannah when her ferry arrived. He’d brought a single red rose with him and a barrette so she could pin it into her hair. Maybe it would be considered old fashioned for this era, but Savannah appreciated his romantic gestures, no matter how small. With the way she favored the old Hollywood styles, he thought it would look perfect in her dark hair.

The evening ferry arrived. He paced in front of the dock while his heart pounded with anticipation. He couldn’t wait to rush her back to the chateau, show her how they’d decorated it—probably to excess.

He searched for her among the crowd. One by one, the passengers disembarked. Until the boat emptied.

She hadn’t made it back on this ferry.

Dark tendrils of fear crawled up and wrapped around him. What had happened?

He rushed up the gangway, in search of someone who could help him.

When he found one of the ferry workers, he said, “I’m looking for a woman. She was supposed to be on this ferry. Can you check to make sure she’s not on board?”

“No one’s on the decks.” The man turned to shout at another behind him. “Check the bathrooms. See if anyone’s still in there.”

While he waited, Antoine tried to still his quickened breathing.

“Nope. No one,” came the reply.

“She must have missed it,” the man said. “Maybe she’ll catch the first one in the morning.”

The colors of the seaside village around him swirled. Something was wrong. Very wrong. He could sense it vibrating along his bones. He dropped the rose.

Thank the gods Cameron had convinced him to get a smart phone. He’d only convinced him by demonstrating the ways he could communicate with Savannah while she was away. No notification from her with an explanation. He called and texted her.

After receiving no response, he called Cameron. “She’s not here!” Antoine heard the frantic edge in his own tone. He was frantic. “Have you heard from her?”

“No.” Cameron replied. “Stay calm, Antoine. She was probably delayed with school or something like that and missed the ferry.”

“She would have contacted me. Something’s wrong. I’m going to find her.”

Knights of Stone: Bryce

Highland Gargoyles part 3

Knights of Stone: BryceWhat happens when love interferes with plans, during the most unfortunate of times?

Gargoyle shifter, and the last of her clan, Mairi, is running for her life, desperate to keep hidden. When she spots two winged creatures flying high above her in the Highlands of Scotland, she momentarily panics, thinking they’re the same beasts who murdered her family along with her entire clan. Realizing they’re gargoyles like her, she takes flight and discreetly follows them to an island.

Bryce, beta of his clan and drummer for the Knights of Stone, senses something is amiss on the Isle of Stone. At first, he believes he’s merely discomfited by the rumors of atrocities occurring in the Highlands. However, he discovers an intruder on the magically-concealed island home. Once he ascertains that the flame-haired beauty is the sole survivor of a traumatizing attack, he returns to the Highlands to warn his former clan.

Somewhere between cautioning the clan and realizing the necessity of destroying the beasts that threaten them all, Mairi and Bryce discover an attraction that quickly evolves into a consuming passion. A problem even greater than the murderous fiends becomes apparent – the love they share may not survive the battle.

Excerpt

Two winged beings soared across the stars. The demons?

Mairi’s heart thudded. They’d tracked her here, miles from home. She slid down to hide in the shadows of the forest as the stark realization chilled her.

God, no. She couldn’t let them find her. Not after what they’d done to her clan.

The claws. The long, curled talons that had trapped her. She squeezed her eyes shut, forcing away the image, but their acrid scent lingered in her mind.

Reliving her captivity would only paralyze her at a time she had to act. She needed a weapon. Not much to choose from in the woods. That branch with a sturdy point would have to do. It wouldn’t deter a demon for long, but better than nothing.

Her drive for survival had kept her moving for two or three days, she’d lost track of how many. Seeing the demons again triggered a red hot desire to lash out. Vengeance. Its tendrils wrapped around her like a fiery vine, consuming all thought. They had to be destroyed for what they’d done to her family. And to her. One day, she’d find a way.

If she survived the night. She squinted to discern where the monsters had flown to. The dark shadows soared in the opposite direction. They hadn’t spotted her. She exhaled and tension drifted out of her muscles.

Wait—the forms and flight patterns were familiar. Not like demons, but human forms with wings. Were they gargoyles?

No, they couldn’t be like her, could they? Wasn’t she the last surviving gargoyle shifter in the whole of the northern Highlands? Maybe she’d flown farther than she’d thought.

Her curiosity bloomed. After a moment of hesitation, she spread her wings and pursued them, trailing from such a distance that they wouldn’t spot her. They were barely pinpricks ahead in the charcoal sky. Still she flew close to the tree line to drop under cover of foliage if one turned back. For miles, she followed them over the slopes and valleys of the Highlands, past mountains and lochs, which shimmered with the reflection of the stars.

What are you doing?

Snorting inside, she answered herself. No flipping clue.

Following those who appeared to be her kind had to be a better option than sitting around to wait for the demons to track her. Most likely it was only a matter of time. Taking action with any sort of purpose had to be better than hiding like a rabbit among a pack of wolves in the Highland forests.

The beings ahead soared for many miles and headed over the North Atlantic. Several times, she paused to debate this foolish pursuit taking her farther away from home, but she pushed on. She didn’t have a home any longer. Didn’t have a clan. She was alone.

Bryce and his elder brother Lachlan cloaked themselves in invisibility before flying back to the Isle of Stone. Only the brightest of stars shone through the blanket of fog while the moon loomed with a ghostly iridescence. Even in its waning state, it conveyed its power through the drifting mist. Yet, it hung blameless, as it always did—no matter what damage it inflicted on those below.

Bryce flinched, prickled by the oddest sensation. Like he was being watched. He searched the earth and sky but only saw the dark canopy of trees, with the breeze ruffling through the leaves. The only scent was of the forests below.

He communicated silently to Lachlan. Do you sense anything unusual?

Lachlan paused for a moment. No. Do you?

Aye. Not sure how to describe it. Something I haven’t felt before.

Do you think it could be related to the reports?

While they visited their former clan in the Highlands, the other gargoyle shifters had mentioned strange incidents they’d overheard while on patrol.

Possibly. Bryce shook his head. Or maybe I’m just being hypervigilant after them putting the idea in my mind.

That had to be it. After all the recent incidents he’d faced with wolf attacks, interfering humans, and close calls, even the calmest gargoyle would be on edge.

Either way, stay on high alert until we get back.

Besides, they were cloaked. Humans wouldn’t be able to see them.

But supernatural creatures could.

Excerpt of Knights of Stone: Lachlan #shifters #pnr #excerpt

As I’m going through edits for Knights of Stone: Bryce, part 3 in the Highland Gargoyles series, I thought I’d share an excerpt from Lachlan’s book.

Knights of Stone: Lachlan

Knights of Stone LachlanAs the new alpha of his gargoyle clan, Lachlan takes on a leadership role at the historic peace talks between the wolf shifters and tree witches. Cooperation is crucial to their survival. The magical veil over the Isle of Stone is weakening. But unity is hard to achieve when tensions are running high. So is Lachlan’s concentration when a sexy wolf shifter rushes to the talks. Her wild beauty is mesmerizing.

Raina has her hands full with pack problems, from pack mates succumbing to blood lust to animosity toward her species. The source of her problems is clear-the gargoyles. If they hadn’t lured the humans to the island with their unconventional rock concerts, she wouldn’t have to deal with the fallout. She wants nothing to do with them, especially their alpha. His not-so-surreptitious glances are hard to miss. Nope. Not the kind of attention she needs. She’s heard rumors of the rebellious, attention-seeking rockers–and of their endless string of females.

But when humans come to investigate the wolf attacks, Lachlan and Raina must work together to coerce them off the island. And time spent together sparks a forbidden attraction. If unexpected love were their only problem, they’d be able to deal with it. It’s not. Time is running out, for them and their island.

Excerpt

Raina’s skin burned under someone’s gaze. When she glanced up, she caught Lachlan staring at her. She’d heard of the gargoyle brothers, but had never seen any of them until now. They appeared more wild and rugged than what she’d envisioned for glamorous rock stars. He didn’t shift his eyes when she’d caught him, but continued to watch her; his posture straight and sturdy as the oaks behind him. She propped her hands on her hips and glared back to show her displeasure, however the shade of his eyes distracted her—a blend of green and brown, reflecting the colors of the island’s forests.

He winked and flashed a cocky grin. Och. How arrogant. What did he think she was, one of those impressionable human females who’d fall over themselves to get closer to one of the band mates? Not going to happen.

The rumors about the reckless gargoyle brothers were now easy to believe. They were notorious on the island for rebelling against their clan. Instead of keeping their identity from humans, they’d played music for them. Entertained them. Encouraged them to return to the island.

She turned away with disgust. Damn him. The gargoyles were the main reason they were all in this mess right now. If they didn’t keep the humans coming back with their unconventional rock concerts, the humans may have left the isle alone. But no, the gargoyles’ wee antics kept them coming back, drawing more humans each time. Her father spoke, snapping her out of her thoughts about the brash gargoyle.

“Our pack is committed to working with all of you to restore the veil.”

The only upside to the horrendous incident was it forced the islands natives to come together in these peace talks. After all, her father had been the one to appeal to a gargoyle and tree witch who’d been meeting in the moors. The veil was essential. Not only did it keep the island undetected by humans, it also provided a shield against the potent effect of the moon on wolves. Young wolf shifters were especially prone to the moon’s power.

Raina shuddered as she remembered the way it had been for her. In her teens, the moon had driven her half mad and with a longing for blood, and she’d ravenously torn into many deer on the island to sate the blind need. With the veil having thinned even more in the last five years, the young wolves struggled to maintain self-control.

In recent weeks, her stirrings had returned, different than the bloodlust of her youth, yet one that left her restless and prowling in search of something. The problem was, she didn’t know what her wolf wanted. Confusion and frustration often followed.

Her pack mates teased her saying she was getting ready to mate. Och, she couldn’t even think of that. She and Seth already bickered like an old couple, and they hadn’t even mated, yet. Today he’d made her late for the peace talk. He’d tried to convince her he should be the one to return, although they’d decided the day before they’d each have a turn at the momentous event, which would affect the future of the pack on the Isle of Stone. It was her chance to make a difference, take on more of a leadership role; she couldn’t let him take it from her.

Lachlan responded to her father, recapturing her attention. “We need to organize these ideas into a plan.”

His brogue was deep and gravelly; he spoke with a commanding yet reasonable tone. Despite her objection to him and his cocksure attitude, she caught herself sneaking another glance. After all, she’d heard so much about this mysterious species they shared the island with.

All negative.

Still her gaze traveled over him, somewhat transfixed. His long black hair gleamed under the sun’s rays, falling over defined shoulders and halfway down his back. He’d assumed a confident stance that fit his powerful body. Wolf shifters were naturally strong, but gargoyle shifters transformed from stone. Every ripple and contour of his bare torso reflected that aspect. The overall package was enticing, making the lure for human females understandable.

She wasn’t a human female and knew better. How foolish they were to fall for womanizing bad boys in a wee, appetizing parcel wrapped in blue tartan.

Och, wee wasn’t the term to describe the massive gargoyle.

My Sexy Vampire for My Sexy Saturday #mss126 #mysexysaturday

Yes, another topic I’m excited about at My Sexy Saturday — My Sexy Vampire! Meet Antoine, the sculptor forced to become a vampire, in Darkness Rising.

Darkness Rising

Part 0.5 of Chateau Seductions

Darkness RisingAntoine Chevalier harbors a secret. Born a gargoyle shifter, he wants nothing more than to cultivate his art. His hard work pays off the night he completes his greatest sculpture. But the excitement of his accomplishment doesn’t last.

He’s drawn the eye of the wrong group—a clan of vampires. Antoine wakes into darkness, changed. Shattered. His dream of becoming a renowned sculptor is destroyed.

One question remains—how will he ever survive an eternity of darkness alone?

Darkness Rising is part 0.5 of the Chateau Seductions series by USA Today Bestselling author Lisa Carlisle. Readers have requested more on the dark and mysterious Antoine. In this short story, Antoine tells his tale, which continues in the series with Dark Velvet. Dark Velvet is written from Savannah’s perspective as a newcomer to an art colony who is intrigued by the proprietor.

Here are seven paragraphs from chapter one:

Excerpt

Chapter One

Darkness Awakened

Paris, Late 1800s

At last, the sculpture was complete. Antoine studied the finished marble piece of a nude woman reclining with a grotesque figure crouched beside her. Beauty and monstrosity together, the contrast was exactly what he’d aimed to achieve. Others would view it as art, but he and his kind would see it as symbolic of their dual nature.

He examined the artwork with a critical eye one last time before cleaning up his work area in the salon. He’d applied many last touches over several days, but now he was confident it was finished. Tomorrow, he’d scrutinize it one last time before presenting it to his instructor, Rodin, and his colleagues for critique.

He strolled up the winding, cobblestone streets to reach his tiny studio on the other side of the hill in Montmartre. Moving here was the right decision; it had a bohemian mindset, attracting artists, writers, and poets. Perhaps he’d stop for a celebratory drink.

“Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be perched on Notre Dame with the rest of your hideous lot?”

As Antoine spun to face the male speaking, icy shivers raced up his spine. Whoever it was knew his true nature.

The scent of the undead hit his sensitive nostrils with an unwelcome sting. Even in human form, he’d recognize the unique odor of those who feasted on human blood. His kind had fought against them for centuries, before they’d established a truce.

Swishing sounds surrounded him followed by dull thuds of creatures landing on the pavement around him. Over a half a dozen vampires faced him with exposed fangs and red eyes flashing with venom. He was vastly outnumbered.

And here’s a trailer for the series.

He inhaled to clear his harried mind, taking in the fragrance of wildflowers and heather as he gazed over the rolling slopes of the moors. The land exuded a sense of tranquility and hope under the soft light of the morning sun. The peace between the Isle of Stone’s natives, however, had lasted only minutes before the cacophony began with ceaseless bickering. Agreeing to work together might have been a mistake.

Not that he had much of an alternative.

When Matilda stopped to take a breath during her speech, Lachlan seized the moment to interrupt her. “We all know of the injustices done to each of us, which led to the division of the island. Time to move beyond the past and address the current situation.”

“Part of what led to the schism is poor communication,” Ian added. “By meeting together to discuss the future of the island, we can avoid making the same mistakes our predecessors did.”

“Predecessors!” Matilda said. “It was only twenty-five years ago. I was there and remember it well.”

“My apologies,” Ian said, bending forward. “With your experience, you’ll be valuable in ensuring we don’t make those same errors in judgment.”

Lachlan had been a young gargoyle during the battles, but he remembered fragments with vivid recall. Battles with magic and bloodshed. Countless deaths. A senseless tragedy.

The sound of movement through the tall grasses made him turn. A female ran toward them, dark hair blowing behind her like the mane of a wild filly. Her red dress blazed like a siren, but he didn’t notice the pattern until she’d slowed her pace—similar to the one on Ian’s kilt.

“What the—” Bryce said at his side, adopting a defensive stance.

“It’s all right,” Ian said. “She’s my daughter.”

Lachlan didn’t recognize her, but that wasn’t a surprise. The wolves had kept to their territory on the isle for over two decades. Around what he’d guess her age to be as he scanned her nubile body with soft, supple curves.

A wolf shifter. With storm blue eyes like the ocean at dusk.

And the daughter of the alpha wolf.

Damn.

“Sorry, I’m late,” she said through quickened breaths, drawing his attention to her parted lips.

She dropped her hands to her knees as she panted from the run, and her hair fell forward in tempting disarray. Her movement offered him a glimpse of her cleavage, breasts rising and falling with each deep breath.

“I was held up by—” She glanced at her father before adding, “pack matters.”

“You haven’t missed much,” Ian replied before addressing the crowd. “This is Raina. Second-in-command in our pack.” He then introduced the others to his daughter.

Lachlan widened his stance and narrowed his eyes at Ian. “You introduced your beta last night.” That wolf shifter’s pride had bordered on arrogance; nothing like his alpha, Ian.

“Aye,” Ian acknowledged. “Seth and Raina share duties.”

The tree witches exchanged glances. Claire, the younger of the two, whispered, “Inconsistency.”

Raina assessed him through inquisitive eyes, making Lachlan forget what he was about to say.

Straightening to his full height, he forged ahead. “We all need to be in human form when they come.”

Hot for Fridays – Cameron and Nadya in Dark Stranger #pnr #romance #shifters

Welcome to Hot for Fridays, part of the Book Boyfriends Cafe weekly blog hop. This week I’m sharing a short excerpt of my new release, Dark Stranger, part 3 in the Chateau Seductions trilogy. It just received a five star review from Books and Beyond Fifty Shades!

promo

A winged being flew down from atop the castle and pulled Douglas back outside. His skin was gray and appeared to be the texture of leather, not soft and pliant like human skin. Black feathered wings spread wide, giving him the appearance that he was twice as large. His face was marked by exaggerated features. A distinguishing scent. Gargoyle.

Another being flew out from behind a castle wall and forced Viktor outside the castle. Mouth open and fangs exposed. Pale skin and the unmistakable scent of the undead. Vampire.

No doubt these were the two who had breached Oakes Island, the ones caught spying. While Viktor fought the vampire, the gargoyle pinned Douglas down. Nadya quickly assessed the situation before jumping into action. The human pulled out a gun, aiming at the scuffling figures before him.

“No!” Nadya jumped onto him, knocking the gun loose as he fell back through the doorway onto the castle floor.

She struggled with him, and they rolled on the hard stone floor. He was remarkably strong for a human, so much so that she inhaled his scent quickly to verify what she was up against. Definitely human. With a delicious male smell beyond the wilderness she’d scented before, stirring an unfamiliar reaction within.

While she was distracted, he got the upper hand, pinning her down with his body and holding her by the wrists. She tried to wriggle out of his grasp, a natural instinct to fight back. As she writhed beneath him, a sudden awareness of his body took over. The way his hard chest pressed down on hers, how his strong thighs straddled her own, and how his rugged face lay only inches from hers wasn’t something she should notice while in such a vulnerable position. His eyes were a captivating blend of brown and green, lulling her with an almost magnetic hold. For a moment, she stopped fighting him, caught up in the intimate way their bodies touched. Her breaths came out in pants from the struggle. And something more. Some kind of primal reaction she couldn’t explain.

The realization hit her with as much shock as an unexpected slap to the face. Hell no. Not now. Not ever! She must be misreading the signs. She forced it away, compartmentalizing it to deal with it another time.

A full minute later, the door opened. A male with dark hair and deep guarded eyes answered. Strong jawline, rough stubble, muscular frame. A rough masculine look that appealed to her, but something else about him arrested her. Something she couldn’t quite place.

“Can I help you?”

His voice was calm and deep, a rich baritone that flowed through her with sensual fluidity. Her wolf senses flared in a visceral reaction, and tiny flickers of awareness sparked through her like a steadily moving brush fire. She almost forgot why they were there until Viktor spoke.

What on earth was happening?

“I’m Viktor, this is Douglas and Nadya. We’re looking for a man who went missing months, ago.” He held up a photo of Alec. “Have you seen him?”

While the man glanced at the photo, she inhaled, taking in his scent. Human. One who had a woodsy scent as enchanting as the forests. Wonderful.

“No. I’m afraid I haven’t seen him.”

He was lying. It was obvious in the change in tone as it became carefully measured. The sudden avoidance of eye contact, followed by a direct wide-eyed look to counter it. By his body language, he knew far more than he admitted. The question was—why?

“Are you sure?” she asked. “Can you take a closer look?”

He’d barely scanned over her when he first opened the door, but now he fixed his gaze on her in a way that made her hold her breath. His eyes lingered on hers too long for comfort, boring deep into her. She’d never felt so naked before, so vulnerable, as though all her secret hopes and desires were revealed for this human to see and judge. The connection terrified, yet exhilarated, her. That one moment freezing time, leaving the world around them to melt into nothingness.

“Sure.” He scanned the photo again. He narrowed his eyes as if studying it. “I don’t recognize him.”

He was hiding something. She was sure of it. The wolf in her wagged her tail furiously as she caught other scents in the castle. Vampire and gargoyle. Glancing at Viktor and Douglas to see their hardened expressions revealed they’d picked up on them, too. Her radar went up.

“I’m curious,” Viktor said. “What’s this place all about?”

“Les Beaux Arts at the Chateau DeRoche is an art colony. Artists, musicians, writers, and more come here for residencies to focus on their craft.”

“How about vampires and gargoyles?” Viktor asked with a pointed glare.

Her stomach tightened. Once Viktor fixed on something, he wouldn’t let it go.

The man narrowed his eyes, now flashing with an intensity that made her heartbeat quicken.

“Excuse me?”

“I smell them clear as day.”

You must be mistaken. We’re all humans here.” He laughed, but it was forced. “Vampires and gargoyles, good one. As if they exist.”

“Human, you clearly know more than you’re revealing. Why don’t you let us in, and we’ll talk about it?”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea,” the man replied in a carefully measured tone.

“And why not?” Viktor asked. “Do you have something to hide?”

“No. However, I’m the manager of this colony.” He straightened. “I cannot disrupt the residents with unannounced guests.”

Viktor fixed his icy stare on the man. “I’m afraid it’s too late for that.” He pushed open the door, forcing his way into the castle. Douglas followed, forging past the human.

“Antoine! Dante!” the man shouted.

A quick glance to her right showed the four still fighting. Fangs and claws were exposed. All were marked by crimson streaks. The sight and coppery scent of blood spurred her back into action, reminding her how dire the situation. She tried to wiggle her arms out of his grasp, but he didn’t yield his hold. Even though she had the strength of a wolf, she wasn’t as strong in human form, and he must have outweighed her by eighty pounds of muscle. The way he held her indicated he’d been well-trained in wrestling or some type of martial arts. Clearly, he wasn’t a typical human, but one well-trained.

“Stop fighting me,” he commanded.

His warm breath fanned her cheek. Scents of chocolate and wine reached her. And his masculine scent continued to make her body light up with awareness in a way it never had. Even his voice sent intimate shivers through her.

She ignored the sexually-charged effect he had on her. What was wrong with her to respond this way during a fight, when he could harm her and the others? It couldn’t be what she feared she’d just discovered. It had to be adrenaline, not lust.

“Get off me!” She thrashed up with her lower body to buck him off, but it was futile. Each thrust reminded her of an intimate act, especially when her pelvis brushed his. She dropped her hips back to the stone floor.

This was stupid. Stupid! She shouldn’t feel turned on by someone pinning her down, especially a human. Time to force the inappropriate thoughts away and find a way to escape this human’s grasp.

“Not until you stop fighting me.” He took his fiery eyes off hers and scanned the area.

She followed his gaze to something dark and metallic. The gun.

My Sexy Saturday – Excerpt from Dark Stranger #mss90 #mysexysaturday

Welcome to My Sexy Saturday. This week I’m sharing seven paragraphs from my new release, Dark Stranger, part 3 in the Chateau Seductions trilogy.

Gargoyle.

Lisa Carlisle

A Bestseller at All Romance Ebooks and Amazon’s Military Romances

Antonio returns from the Marine Corps to begin a new life as a civilian. While visiting Cape Cod, he meets a strange woman who reads his Tarot cards. He doesn’t believe in such nonsense; after all, he’s a Marine. When he returns to Boston, he receives a ticket to a rock club where he runs into the one woman he never forgot.

Lina can’t believe Antonio is back in town, right before her wedding. Being around him again resurrects long-buried feelings. Will she be able to resist temptation in the form of a dark-haired Italian Marine, the same man who once broke her heart?

Excerpt

“These guys are awesome,” Krystal shouted over the music. “Impossible not to have a good time at their shows.”

“Glad I brought you,” Lina replied. “I doubt this would be Brett’s scene.”

They danced and sang along for several songs until the singer announced, “We’re going to take a break. Get a drink, take a piss, and get ready for the second part of the show, which will blow away the first.”

Lina and Krystal were among the first to get to the women’s room. By the time they came out, a line was forming out the door.

“Drink?” Krystal suggested.

“Yeah, let me think. What do I want?” She glanced up at the bar. “Oh, my God.” She turned away and looked up to the ceiling, which had dozens of rubber bats hanging from the rafters. “Oh, God. Oh, God.”

Krystal turned to her, perplexed. “What?”

“My ex is here.”

Krystal scanned the room. “Who? Where?”

“The tall one at the bar. Black hair, black shirt. Tattooed arms.”

“The guy standing so straight like he has a rod up his back?”

“Yes. He can’t help it. He’s a Marine.”

Krystal’s mouth became a perfect O. “Holy shit. The one you were crazy about?”

Lina couldn’t respond so she nodded, unable to tear her eyes from him. Three years had passed, but he appeared as young and as vibrant as when he was a teenager. His black hair was shorter than when they’d first started dating, but not as close cut as while enlisted in the Marines.

His eyes still conveyed a sense of amusement and burned with an intensity that could render women speechless, including her when they’d first met at a club like this one. His body was leaner than when she’d last seen him; he’d lost some weight that further defined his muscles. He resembled a boxer more than a bodybuilder. The whole package was one she’d never been able to resist. A sucker for dark, brooding Italian boys, he captured it so well he should have been on tourist brochures. It would get her on the first flight to Italy.

Krystal brought her back to earth. “Are you going to say hi to him?”

Lina’s mind scrambled. “I don’t know what to do.”

He must have felt her eyes staring as he turned her way and caught her eye. She froze, unable to break the stare.

“Looks like he knows you’re here now.”

“Uh, ah, um…”

Krystal nudged her arm. “Snap out of it, Lina. No matter what happened between you, he’s still just a guy. It was a long time ago, and you’ve moved on. You’re a strong, confident woman. Don’t let that hot shit with a poker up his ass undermine that.”

Lina faced Krystal. “You’re right. It’s—unexpected. Last I heard he was over in Afghanistan.”

“And now he’s coming your way.”

A smile crept from the corner of his Dante’s lips. “You don’t paint people often.”

She raised her chin. “I make exceptions when I see something worth painting.” Was she flirting? Time to shut the hell up. Heat rose in from her chest up to her cheeks. Always one to throw an awkward statement, she added, “Nobody would have to know it was you,” she added. “I’d hide your face.”

“You don’t like my face?” The hint of a smile developed into a full blown smirk.

“No!” She protested. “I do.” Shut up, Gina. You’re making it worse. “I meant for your privacy.”

“So you do like my face?” He grinned.

“I’m a p-painter,” she stammered. “I’m looking at this strictly as an artist not letting an opportunity slip her by.”

“So it’s for art, eh?” His eyes twinkled with amusement.

5* Review of Dark Muse from Books and Beyond Fifty Shades! – “While it is a story about struggle, it is also about love; and doing whatever needs to be done to be with the one you are attracted to. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Gina and Dante. This story has the perfect amount of witty banter, sex, and romance.”

“I absolutely Loved this second book Dark Muse. If you love romance with a side kick of action then this is for you.”

“I love this author and I love her gargoyle stories. I can’t wait to read more of them, so keep on writing them.”

“Fast paced story with steamy hot sex and those two characters that promise you an amazing time.
An amazing scenery, an amazing plot and of course you get the chance to see what’s going on in the chateau and in the characters we met in the first book as well!”
