Book Spotlight: Taking Eve by Tina Donahue

Please welcome fellow Ellora’s Cave author Tina Donahue here today. Tina is sharing her new release.

TAKING EVE

by Tina Donahue

A willing slave to possession, punishment, pleasure…taking-eve-2-copy (2)

Dreams of a manor where submission and dominance once ruled draws Faith to hypnotherapist Colin Danes. Potently virile, he looks remarkably like her most cherished master from a past life. Desire smolders in his eyes, proving he’s never forgotten her.

Their carnal dance continues in the present and leads to their past when she was known as Eve. Through hypnotherapy, Colin brings her back to the Victorian era, a hidden estate where she eagerly submits to whatever he and her other noble masters crave. The exquisite discipline of the strap. Being bid on and mounted each night. Displayed and used for the enjoyment of all.

Most will take her. One will try to imprison her. Only he will be her true master in that life and this.

Excerpt

The advertisement challenged, Are your dreams so real they seem to have come from another time?

Faith Montgomery gripped the mail circular. Its paper made a sharp, crackling noise, no different from ice snapping.

Frigid wind swept past, delivering more snow. Feverish and unsettled, Faith stood in front of the medical arts building that catered to doctors, nutritionists, shrinks and hypnotherapists. Unlike Seattle’s typical brick or glass structures, this place had a granite façade and steepled ceilings. Similar to a castle where dominance, submission and punishment played out. Where men wore dated clothing, while women were nude, defenseless, sighing then crying out their arousal and pleasure.

Her mouth went dry.

From behind, a car’s horn blared, sending her pulse into a faster sprint. Traffic continued to crawl along the slick streets, headlights brushed past, illuminating the building’s directory. Faith didn’t bother to search it. According to the circular, his office was on the second floor. Her appointment in a few minutes, made earlier in the week by phone. The first time she’d heard his voice and yet not the first time.

“Why do you want an appointment?” he’d asked.

Something inside her had fluttered at his smooth baritone, enticing and strangely familiar, reducing her to silence.

“You’ve seen things,” he’d coaxed. “Felt things.”

God, yeah.

While he’d waited for her response, she’d stared at his picture on the glossy flyer.

Several locks of his hair—thick, wavy, the color of espresso—grazed his forehead. His strong, masculine features were handsome as hell, nearly aristocratic. In her mind, Faith saw him dressed in eveningwear, the kind worn during the early Victorian era. A coat with tails, snug at the waist to accentuate his impressive shoulders. Dark trousers and a shockingly white cravat. Identical to heroes in romance novels that she’d read in high school.

He definitely had those guys beat.

His long-lashed eyes were a striking blue. Even from the picture, they stripped Faith of all privacy, reaching into her soul, the same as the promise of his full, rich mouth. A hint of stubble graced his upper lip, chin and cheeks, virile and tempting. Young, possibly early thirties, he was the kind of man a woman wouldn’t forget.

Faith certainly hadn’t.

“Yeah,” she’d murmured during the call, at last answering him. “I’ve had recurring dreams, flashes of another time.”

You.

Rather than questioning her further, he’d given her the last appointment of the day, well past the time other professionals did business. His office windows were the only ones lit on the second floor, the lights’ golden glow spilling onto the street. Waves of snow, carried by the wind, twinkled like stars within the brightness.

Faith half-expected—and fully hoped—he’d be at the window, looking down at her. Watching. Waiting. Anticipating as she was.

He wasn’t.

His absence only stoked her stark need. Clearly, he had no doubt she’d keep their appointment. Now, as before, he commanded and figured she’d obey.

On an edgy sigh, she entered the building. Heated air and the scents of polished wood, leather, wool washed over her. In the absolute quiet, she heard each click of her heels across the floor, a dark-green marble veined with white.

Faith avoided slick spots made by others who’d come and gone, tracking in the snow. She should have worn more practical shoes in this weather, pants instead of a skirt, but hadn’t, sensing he wouldn’t have approved.

Like one possessed—or commanded by a Master—Faith climbed the stairs, reaching the second floor. The walls were paneled in polished walnut, which gave them the air of a private club where men called the shots. Their decisions law. Their desires the only rule that counted, no matter what they demanded. A woman’s full surrender to their needs. Having her down on her knees before them, her lips parted for the taste of a thickened cock or to release her whimper of delight at the strap one of them held, eager for him to discipline her.

Lightheaded and breathless, she stared at the hall. His office was at the end, the door open, a wedge of amber light demanding she go inside.

No receptionist greeted her in the snug waiting room. Faith hadn’t expected one, figuring he’d want them to be alone. Exactly what she craved.

She inhaled as deeply as she could. Leather from the burgundy chairs perfumed the small space, claiming it for a man. Beyond the reception area was his office, the door open. He stood at his desk, his attention on a book he read.

Her legs went watery. With indecent curiosity, she drank him in, the charcoal sweater and dark trousers that matched the color of his silky hair and fit his powerful frame so well. Broad shoulders. Muscular thighs. She forced down a swallow, knowing there was raw power in his strong hands. She’d dreamed of it, had seen glimpses in her mind.

And would do anything to experience it again.

As though he’d heard her thoughts, he closed his book with a faint snap and looked up.

Time shifted, the past bleeding into the present. Faith forgot to breathe or to step closer, trapped within his potent gaze, overwhelmed with a sense of recognition, irresistible and welcoming.

I know you…you know me.

Unmistakable longing flared in his eyes, the same yearning she felt. Beneath it was a flash of lust.

Dark Velvet, Book 1 in Chateau Seductions #mfrwauthor #gargoyle #vampire

Somehow I’ve found myself working on three projects simultaneously, all in various stages of writing, revising, and polishing. I’m happy to note that one of these projects is Dark Muse, part two of a new series I’ve begun called Chateau Seductions. The setting at a castle at a remote New England island is so captivating, I love losing myself in the story. The first part of the series, Dark Velvet, is out now and it’s received some reviews that make me smile.

Be sure to enter your email on the right to hear when Dark Muse or other new releases are available. Some really cool stuff coming out with other authors this year.

Dark Velvet

darkvelvetGrad student Savannah Evans is thrilled to be accepted as a resident to a prestigious art colony. Where else would she be able to focus on her craft of writing poetry in a setting like that of the medieval-styled castle? The remote New England island is a respite from her hectic city life. When she meets her benefactor, a mysterious French sculptor, her expectations for carefree days writing near the ocean are distracted by unprofessional fantasies about her sponsor.

Antoine Chevalier built Les Beaux Arts on DeRoche Island to bring purpose back to an existence that has lost meaning. He’s wandered the earth for decades and finds solace in returning to art. When Savannah applies for a residency, something about her words touches him. After her arrival, a physical attraction grows between them, which he struggles against.  She deserves more than someone of his kind.

Antoine proposes they become lovers during her stay. But the situation turns complicated when Savannah discovers his secret. She had suspicions about his identity, but finds the truth overwhelming. Consumed by her desire for Antoine and faced with a tough decision, she is blind to the danger that has arrived at DeRoche Island.

Book Spotlight: Seducing the Hermit by Suz deMello

Welcome to my fellow Ellora’s Cave and Red Hot Authors Cafe author, Suz deMello. Suz is sharing her latest release.

Seducing the Hermit

Suz deMello

Seducting the HermitDeejay Valerie Percy rejects the phony life she’s led in L.A. and travels to remote Takinsha Island, Alaska, determined to start over. She’s looking for a fuck buddy, an accessory she considers more important than mascara. She wants a warm, outgoing man to laugh with her, hang out with her and shag her silly. She doesn’t think she’ll encounter any difficulty in Alaska, where the odds of men to women are twenty to one. But as the locals say, the odds are good, but the goods are…odd.

Valerie falls for Fisher Chugatt, a loner who doesn’t do relationships. But Cupid has other plans for this couple, and so does Valerie. She doesn’t waste any time seducing Fisher. Sex in the shower, hummers on the couch and a spectacular encounter beneath the northern lights seal the deal in Valerie’s mind. Having fallen in love, she wants it all—home, husband, babies.

But shadows from his past may prevent Fisher from committing to anyone…Valerie included.

Excerpt

The ferry bumped against the dock, and she went below to get into her faithful V.W. bug and drive it off the boat. Packed with her belongings, Old Faithful had somehow crawled from Los Angeles all the way to Bellingham, Washington, where Valerie had boarded the Alaska Marine Highway, the ferry system to Takinsha.

She crammed herself into the small car, crowded with boxes and bags. Digging the key out of her purse, she started O.F. and slowly drove out, rolling and clattering over the ferry’s metal bib. When she emerged into the thin sunshine illuminating the dock, a box slipped from the top of the stack in the front seat. It fell, jamming the brake. “Shit!” She pumped furiously at the pedal, but O.F. kept rolling along the crowded dock.

Dammit, she couldn’t stop her car. Images flashed by her panicked eyes. Tourists jumping out of her way, cameras swinging like misshapen pendulums. Fishermen swearing as they dodged O.F. The crunch of crab pots and assorted other gear she couldn’t identify, not when it was being crushed beneath Old Faithful’s tires.

The tall, dark hottie she’d seen from the ferry turned, his eyes widening. Just before the bug rolled into him, he leaped onto the hood of her car, shouting, “Jesus fucking Christ!”

Scrabbling for a grip, he grabbed a wiper. It broke off in his hand. Swatches of angry red flagged the hunk’s furious face. He spread his hands on the window, plastering himself along it as best he could, bending his knees onto the hood so he wouldn’t lose a leg.

“Shit, shit, shit!” Screeching with dismay, Valerie dug her hand between two boxes to grab the brake below. Something snapped, probably one of her acrylic fingernails. She didn’t care. Thankfully, the car had stopped before it could inflict much more damage to the truck and dock, to say nothing of the hottie.

Even as Michael, Kane and Alana savor the passion, they must discover who’s behind the kidnappings, before their chance at forever is taken away.

Excerpt 1:

As they walked out the door, Michael smiled at her. It was a little too smug for her liking. She stopped in the center of the sidewalk and frowned up at him.

“Why do you look so satisfied?” She tilted her head and waited for an answer.

“I was thinking that it wasn’t so bad for a first meal considering that you barely spoke to us the day before. We managed to talk some and get a few of the facts out in the open and now you seem a little more relaxed.” Michael shrugged.

“I’m resigned, I guess you could say, to working with you.” She didn’t try to sweeten the words. One meal with them hadn’t changed her mind even if it had given her plenty to think about. “I’m still leaving once we discover who’s doing this and stop the idiot.”

Alana didn’t know enough about what they wanted to talk with them about her plans to come back. Every time she thought about them as her mates mixed feelings swept over her. Caution warred with desire to be with them, drawing her attention away from everything but her two mates. Part of her wanted nothing more than to claim her mates, but doing that while she was on a mission didn’t seem to be the wisest thing. It would probably be best to wait until they could focus on their relationship. If she was here for any length of time, she would claim them and after that, she wouldn’t walk away from them. They hadn’t sent that letter and what she’d seen was almost definitely a mistaken impression, but still, she had some doubts that they could get along for a week, much less for life, as mates.  She wanted to keep a little distance between them. Now wasn’t the time to discover if they could get along or build a life together. They needed to focus.

“You’re not leaving, Alana. Not without us, not again. We’ve learned from our mistakes.” Michael frowned, but sounded utterly confident.

She glared at him. “I’m not sure it was a mistake to leave even if what I knew at the time was wrong.”

“Alana, the only thing you’re going to be doing in a few weeks is settling into life here. You’ll be curling up with us in front of our fireplace not running away again.” Kane cupped the side of her cheek and his eyes locked with hers in open challenge.

She shook her head. “They’ve made sure that I can’t leave the mountain without you while we’re supposed to work together, but we will discover who is behind it at some point. I don’t think the Council is going to keep me here after we solve these kidnappings.”

Michael grinned. “I don’t think it will be necessary, but don’t place any bets on your assumption. They don’t like things interfering with matings and now that you’re back, getting you settled is one of their highest priorities.”

Alana growled low in her throat. She hadn’t exactly forgotten about the Council’s remarks about the mating, but she had put it out of her mind. It should be her choice.

“Don’t get too upset about it right now. I really don’t think it’s going to come to that.” Kane drew his hand down her back in a long slow sweep that she knew was meant to comfort her.

All it did was make her aware of how much she’d missed being here and how much she loved their touch. She wanted to crawl all over them and explore their bodies. Kane’s proposal of curling up in front of a fire sounded much too good. The only problem was that she knew it wouldn’t stop at cuddles and kisses.

“I may not be raising hell, but I’m still furious.  I haven’t accepted anything.” Alana had to point it out. Everyone seemed to be taking it for granted that their relationship as mates would be sealed. As far as she was concerned, it was still up in the air.

“We know that.” Michael turned and stepped in front of her. “I hope you realize we’ve accepted the connection and all that it entails.”

She looked at him with a frown, wondering what he meant by “all it entails”. They couldn’t have feelings for her. In spite of the intensity of Familiar link, they barely had time learn anything about her during their very short relationship. She didn’t think they even knew of her before she walked up to them that night and it had been years since they saw her.

“Do you really think that only shifters are joined by mating ties? The witch-mate bond might not have solidified for us yet, but it will. The intensity of the desire I feel for you is proof of that, even on top of the strength of the Familiar connection. I’ve never been more tempted into a public display of sex before this. Even standing here, I want to haul you into my arms.” His hands brushed up and down her arms.

She leaned into him. She couldn’t stop herself and noticed that he moved closer as well. His hands tightened and his head lowered. She tilted her head for his kiss. His lips brushed hers softly back and forth. Longing and desire twisted through her.

Alana had been alone for so long. It wasn’t the loneliness that had bothered her so much. She’d missed the connection and thought she’d never feel it again. Her fingers fisted on the sleeves of his shirt and she darted her tongue over his wanting a deeper kiss. The heat of his body lured her closer. Everywhere they touched tingled and sensitized.

His hand cupped the back of her neck. The kiss became claiming and she could feel the hunger in the glide of his other hand down her back. A third hand slid under her shirt and the streak of arousal that shot through her tore her from the haze of desire. It was too intense and felt too right. She drew back, pushing at Michael’s shoulders to gain a little more distance when he was slow to release her.

His hands loosened enough that she could step back. Kane stood to the side, an arrogant smirk curving his lips, but she didn’t miss the arousal in his eyes or scent. The man wanted her just as much as his brother. She’d like to say she backed off because the kinkiness freaked her out, but she was honest enough with herself to admit that it had only been shock.

“Heavy Metal, vampires and shifters make a great combination in this mesmerizing paranormal romance”

While at Book Expo America in NYC, I was delighted to read a fantastic review of Bloodlust and Metal from Night Owl Reviews. Here are some snippets:

Heavy Metal, vampires and shifters make a great combination in this mesmerizing paranormal romance.

The fast paced plot keeps readers on their toes with lots of action, suspense, drama and romance.  The author describes the story with well written scenes and events that capture the imagination and spine tingling tension builds throughout the story as Layla and Devon try to solve the mystery and danger comes looking for them both.

The attraction between Devon and Layla radiates from every page and no matter how much they fight it the sex scenes are red hot and scorch the reader with their fiery passion.
The relationship between the two keeps things real interesting and the danger, passion and action heats things up even more and the drama with the band adds a little more spice to the story as well.

Intrigued? Here’s more info.
