#Excerpt from Dark Muse, Paranormal Rock Romance by Lisa Carlisle

Dark Muse

Lisa Carlisle

Dark-MuseIt takes time before Gina Meiro warms up to people and her shyness is often misunderstood. She hasn’t had to worry about meeting new people at a remote art colony until a new resident arrives—a rock guitarist more suited for a billboard. Her carefree days of painting at the medieval-styled castle on a remote New England island are shattered when she stumbles right into his welcome gathering.

After a falling out with his band, Dante Riani wants nothing more at Les Beaux Arts on DeRoche Island than solitude to work on new songs. When a shy young painter asks to paint him at sunset, he’s tempted by the opportunity to be alone with her.

Someone at the colony claims to know what Dante is and asks for his help. Dante fears his plans are coming undone, especially as grows more drawn to Gina. Her scent and vulnerability are too difficult to resist. But he must stay away from her—she would never understand his secret.

This is part two in the Chateau Seductions series, but can be read on its own.

A smile crept from the corner of his Dante’s lips. “You don’t paint people often.”

She raised her chin. “I make exceptions when I see something worth painting.” Was she flirting? Time to shut the hell up. Heat rose in from her chest up to her cheeks. Always one to throw an awkward statement, she added, “Nobody would have to know it was you,” she added. “I’d hide your face.”

“You don’t like my face?” The hint of a smile developed into a full blown smirk.

“No!” She protested. “I do.” Shut up, Gina. You’re making it worse. “I meant for your privacy.”

“So you do like my face?” He grinned.

“I’m a p-painter,” she stammered. “I’m looking at this strictly as an artist not letting an opportunity slip her by.”

“So it’s for art, eh?” His eyes twinkled with amusement.

5* Review of Dark Muse from Books and Beyond Fifty Shades! – “While it is a story about struggle, it is also about love; and doing whatever needs to be done to be with the one you are attracted to. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Gina and Dante. This story has the perfect amount of witty banter, sex, and romance.”

“I absolutely Loved this second book Dark Muse. If you love romance with a side kick of action then this is for you.”

“I love this author and I love her gargoyle stories. I can’t wait to read more of them, so keep on writing them.”

“Fast paced story with steamy hot sex and those two characters that promise you an amazing time.
An amazing scenery, an amazing plot and of course you get the chance to see what’s going on in the chateau and in the characters we met in the first book as well!”

5* Review of Knights of Stone from Books and Beyond Fifty Shades #witches #gargoyles

I’m thrilled to share this 5* review of Knights of Stone from Books and Beyond Fifty Shades:

“Kayla and Mason fall in love despite their differences, despite being different. It is a new way of telling Romeo and Juliet. You cannot be with them because of something their ancestors did, and the kids saying I do not care about that, I want to be with them regardless. A lesson many of us need to learn. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting something a little different from their normal.”

Knights of Stone

Highland Gargoyles 1

KnightsOfStone

Gargoyles, tree witches, and wolf shifters have divided the Isle of Stone after a great battle twenty-five years ago. When Kayla, a tree witch, hears about the unconventional rock concerts in the gargoyle’s territory, she sneaks from her coven and into their territory to see for herself. Night after night, she returns to see one in particular shift into human form and play guitar at these unconventional shows.

For several nights, Mason has kept watch for the pixie-like female. He plans to seduce her, thinking she’s a visitor from another island. When he discovers she’s one of the tree witches, he retreats, attempting to keep his distance. The temptation is strong, but forbidden.

Kayla and Mason attempt to meet in secret, but other elements on the isle command their attention. A magical cloak created by the three clans on the island is thinning, leading to repercussions for all the clans. Kayla and Mason are caught in the middle of it, and their actions may change the fate for all.

Excerpt

Murmurs of astonishment burst from the crowd as the transformation began. Their cries of fervor grew louder as the monstrous statues transformed into taller, slimmer figures with the bronzed skin of warriors who battled under the midday sun. The tartan fabric fell over their thighs as they stood erect, covering their nudity.

Kayla barely blinked, mesmerized as always, as the statue before her stood to full height, taking on the form of a human male, but with beautiful raven wings. Hair just as black snaked rebelliously past his chin. The stony eyes flickered with animation, turning to a mossy green. His deep gaze seared the audience, seeming to burn anything in the path. When he found Kayla, he stopped. His expression was unreadable, but the intensity in his unblinking eyes made her swallow. She froze under the scrutiny as if hypnotized, unable to break eye contact. Her stomach lurched, heart pounded, and every muscle in her body tightened, fueled with blood now scorching through her veins. His penetrating appraisal affected her so. When his eyes took on a smoldering glint, her skin tingled and a red-hot awareness grew between her thighs.

He broke the stare and continued to assess the audience. She gasped, not realizing she had been holding her breath, and panted while she tried to breathe at a normal rate.

He turned on robust legs and strode to a guitar stand. She tore her eyes from him to note the other gargoyles. They, too, had shifted into the form of striking males. One had black hair draped further down his back, one had long blond hair, and two had reddish-brown hair—one wavy and shaggy, the other straight. They took their place at other instruments. She sought the guitarist again and caught the first sound of the pick striking the strings. On hearing the guitar projected through the amp, the crowd roared again, pressing Kayla forward.

The freak show was about to begin.

Spotlights flooded the musicians, powered by solar panels near a massive amplifier. The guitarist continued playing and the others joined in, playing a raucous crossover between hard rock and heavy metal. The one with long blond hair grabbed hold of the microphone and belted out a shattering cry that sounded like a call to battle. The crowd went pin drop silent to listen and then cheered in unison as the band played on. The front man sang piercing growls and low croons about the Knights in Stone, the protectors of the ancient forests, battling against the evil tree witches.

Kayla’s coven.

Excerpt

Mortified, Evie Strand looked on in horror at the office Christmas party careening out of control. Her fellow employees stared at her in amazement. Some snickered. Some couldn’t remain silent.

“What a hoot,” Leslie whispered from the seat next to her. “You put old Adam in his place.”

Evie shook her head and swallowed hard, willing herself to be anywhere but in this room. Adam Grant’s dark eyes snapped, mocking her. Did he really think she’d given him that package on purpose? It was meant for Christie, her closest friend. That package wasn’t even supposed to come to the office party. Christie didn’t work for the store.

How could she be such an idiot? She’d wrapped so many Christmas presents late last night. It had never occurred to her that the two packages looked so similar on the outside.

To her dismay, she’d drawn Adam Grant’s name for the annual gift exchange. She hadn’t given it much thought once she’d decided to give him a tie.

Evie blinked as he rummaged through his gift. “No,” she muttered softly, when he held up a second thong. This one, like the last, had hand-stitched lettering.

She should know. She’d painstakingly hand-lettered seven thongs for Christie. They were supposed to be a joke. Christie would probably never actually wear any of them, but they’d both gone out of their way over the past six seasons to surprise each other with something outlandishly sexy. Maybe she’d gone over the top this year.

Adam held up the pink Tuesday thong. He could hardly read it aloud for breaking up with laughter. Tuesday: Wish you were…A question mark below the lettering left little room for confusion about the intent—it would nestle comfortably over the wearer’s mound.

More hoots and hollers followed. The powder-blue Monday thong had been more shocking, probably because it was the first one Adam had held up, or maybe because it said Don’t Dribble across the front.

Evie pushed her chair back from the long banquet table where she sat with her fellow Grafton Department Store employees. Leslie grabbed her wrist. “Don’t let him get the best of you. Mistakes happen. At least half the people here think you did this on purpose to get the rake’s goat. If you leave, they’ll know you screwed up.”

Evie gulped and nodded at her department manager. She drew in a deep breath. “All right.”

She glanced back at Adam in time to see him holding up the yellow Wednesday thong: Kiss My…with a broken arrow pointing suggestively toward the backside.

Blurb for Tina Donahue’s Make Me Surrender (menage):

She has a proposition…to win their attention, passion, hearts.

For over a year, Mercy’s had her eye on Travis and Dutch, two of the hottest guys on the Oregon coast. Dark and dangerously virile, Travis owns a saloon that caters to bikers. Dutch looks like one, right down to his impressive tats, and operates a motorcycle repair shop on the premises.

When a position opens in the saloon’s kitchen, Mercy sees a way to be near these sinfully sexy men, wanting the job and lodging, her cabin snuggled between theirs.

Travis isn’t so sure about having Mercy nearby. She’s deliciously curvy, but too nice. He’s into temporary fun. To Dutch, forever is a dirty word.

Imagine their surprise when sweet little Mercy encourages wild nights of carnal pleasure with a dash of bondage and spanking…followed by friendship and tenderness.

Before she’s through, these tough guys will be the ones who’ve surrendered.

Excerpt

When she saw the kitchen, her hand went to her chest. Grease spatters and unwashed pans decorated the small, dingy space.

“Greg took off kind of fast,” Travis explained.

“Something about an outstanding warrant,” Dutch added. “He usually cleaned up after himself.”

She made a face at the inside of the stove. “When was the last time he really cleaned this?”

Dutch lifted his shoulders, feeling bad for her.

Sighing, she regarded the snug surroundings. Space enough for two. With three, it was crowded as hell, everyone practically on top of each other. The air too thick and charged. At least for Dutch. Mercy had pulled in her arms to avoid anything grimy, which plumped her breasts and deepened her cleavage.

Dutch’s legs went unsteady.

“Let me change and get my cleaning stuff,” she said. “I’ll have this place sparkling in no time.”

Travis didn’t step out of her way. “About what you’re wearing.”

“It’s really cute,” Dutch said, the words falling out of his mouth.

Mercy perked up. Travis frowned. “You can’t wear that around here.”

Surprise then confusion flickered across her face. “You mean while I cook.”

“I mean anywhere on the property.”

A flash of offense crowded out her first response. “Why?” She regarded her outfit. “What’s wrong with it?”

Nothing as far as Dutch was concerned.

Travis sighed. “When guys start drinking, they stop using their heads.”

Her slender eyebrows shot up. “They’re going to be drinking in my cabin? In the woods surrounding it? In my car?”

Dutch snickered.

Travis shot him a look then turned to her. “Of course not. But I don’t want you traipsing around here dressed like that.”

“Traipsing? Like I have all the time in the world, not two jobs?”

“Look, it’s my place,” he said. “And those are the rules.”

She spoke to Dutch. “What did Greg wear when he cooked?”

Dutch tried to recall. “Ah, jeans and an undershirt.”

“Want me to wear that?” she asked Travis. “Or would a burka be better?”

Dutch laughed.

Travis frowned. “I don’t want anyone attacking you.”

“Because I’m your employee?” she asked. “Or because they might find me attractive?”

Travis screwed up his mouth as though he’d tasted something shitty. “Because you’ll get hurt.”

“I can take care of myself.”

“Until you can’t,” he countered.

“What if I want to attack them?” She looked from him to Dutch and back. “Is that allowed?”

“You mean because you’re only looking for a good time?” Dutch asked. “Nothing permanent? No strings?”

“Sure. Isn’t that what makes the world go ’round?”

Not according to Travis, at least when it came to her. Dutch looked at his friend, his expression saying, ‘Hey fool, you were wrong.’

Or at least misguided. There was still that hint of worship about Mercy. However, she was proving to be as practical as they were. Looking for fun. Happy to settle for that.

Until she wasn’t.

Fuck. Travis’s warning still echoed in Dutch’s mind.

Travis mumbled, “Dress appropriately. That’s all I ask. And stay out of trouble. I’ve got enough shit to handle without having to rescue you.”

Her sass evaporated. She looked so hurt Dutch had to stop himself from hugging her, and risk all hell breaking loose.

“Don’t worry, you won’t,” she murmured. “Let me get my stuff so I can clean this place.”

Travis finally stepped out of her way. Mercy stopped, then turned back to him. “Thanks for letting me stay.” On her tiptoes, she cupped his face and brushed her lips over his.

Dutch gaped.

She hushed to Travis. “I really appreciate it.”

Before he could say anything or start breathing again, she moved into Dutch, cupping his face. His cock shot to attention at her feathery touch, his lids sliding down. Her lips weren’t cold from the Popsicle as he’d imagined, but soft and achingly warm. She smelled of something flowery and feminine. Alluring as hell.

“Thanks for helping me move my stuff in,” she whispered to him, then left the kitchen and saloon, heading to her cabin.
