Lisa Carlisle Presents Tips on Revising Your Nanowrimo Novel

How many of you participated in National Novel Writing Month this past November, where you pledge to write a 50,000 novel in thirty days? Many authors love it; others hate it. I look forward to the challenge and the idea of committing myself to focusing on a novel for one month a year. So many other priorities get in the way if I let them, but in November my mantra is Nano, Nano, Nano.

This is my fourth year and I’ve come up with a post-nano revision process. At the end of November, I have a completed novel. Yeah! Yet, it is far from finished. It’s a messy first draft with a number of unnamed characters, question marks, and comments for me to address in the revisions. I wrote up some tips on the process I generally follow over at Savvy Authors.

Is Bigger Better? MFRW Home for the Holidays Blog Hop

bloghopsWe had a fake tree growing up, but once I met my husband he introduced me to the tradition of shopping for a real Christmas tree.

What did you think I was talking about? 😉

Each year, the trees seem to get bigger and bigger, swallowing up part of my living room and blocking me from one of my book cases. Sometimes I stay home and make hot cocoa while he goes out with the kids, but this year I went with them to “make sure they don’t get a tree that’s too big.”

I went with them all right. And I pointed out a tree that I thought would work nice. They all agreed and we brought it home. Once we tried setting it up in the living room, my husband exclaimed, “This is the biggest tree we’ve ever had in here. I don’t think it’s going to fit!”

Whoops! So if you shop for a tree this time of year, tell me your tips for picking the right tree.

I’d also like to share my latest release that just came out with Ellora’s Cave. It’s a short, hot paranormal romance featuring a very sexy gargoyle. I love the idea of protective gargoyles.

gargoylesembrace_msrGargoyle’s Embrace

Fifth in the Underground Encounters series.

Tracy isn’t sure why she’s drawn to a particular gargoyle statue in the Goth club where she works. After the stone takes human form to protect her from her abusive ex, she brings the handsome, naked male to her apartment. It’s impossible to ignore the seductive appeal of a man sculpted like a Viking warrior.

Danton has only hours in human form to spend with the woman he has hungered for. He’s convinced what’s between them is more than hot sex, but he needs to convince Tracy of that before he turns back to stone.

Sizzling Summer Hop with Lisa Carlisle

Hi, I’m Lisa Carlisle and I write hot paranormal romance for Ellora’s Cave. Welcome to the Summer Seduction Blog Hop!

To kick off this hot summer, I had two new releases in my series, both with a rock ‘n’ roll element. What’s hotter than a rock star? I don’t know what it is, but there’s something so sexy about a man crooning on stage or playing an instrument, especially guitar.

I’m giving away a digital copy of Rock Me Tonight or Bloodlust and Metal to one lucky commenter through my Rafflecopter giveaway. Be sure to leave a comment below on who you think would be the sexier hero, Nico or Devon.

Book 4 in the Underground Encounters series

On the run from a master vampire, young vampire Layla Black flees London to reinvent herself as the singer of an Eighties cover band in Boston. Devon St. Clair is the bounty hunter hired to track her down. As a shapeshifter with extraordinary skills, his reputation is known throughout the supernatural world. Capturing Layla should be an easy gig that will net a nice profit.

The situation doesn’t go as Devon plans. He wants Layla in his bed, but shapeshifters and vampires don’t mix. They should hate each other, but instead they’re keeping the sheets steamy. When circumstances force them on the run together, their preconceived notions are challenged. If they can evade those hunting them and convince his fellow shapeshifters to help her even though she’s a vampire, they just might have a chance to explore where all that hot, sweaty sex can take them.

A computer geek by day, Nico dons a rock singer persona by night. He’s tired of women pursuing him just because he’s in a band—the sex may be handy, but he wants something more. He’s intrigued by Lily’s reticence.

Keeping her emotional distance proves difficult the more Lily uncovers the intelligent, considerate man hiding behind Nico’s bad-boy persona. Their encounters are hot-hot-hot, but Nico wants more from Lily than sex. A Sexy Saturday with Lisa Carlisle

Good morning. This is my first My Sexy Saturday. Here are seven paragraphs from my paranormal/shapeshifter romance Rock Me Tonight.

That was my hang-up. I knew no guy would be able to handle my secret.

My thoughts were distracted as I strained to hear the opening of the song. He sang so softly at first I barely made out the lyrics. Then his croon turned into a seductive opening of a song I recognized. #1 Crush by Garbage, an admittance of obsessive love . How the hell did he make it sound so tormented and yet so damn sexy all at once?

I had to get a better look and see this guy who was exacting complete control over the crowd. He had them worked up in a frenzy during the last song and now they had settled into a hypnotic sway as they listened to him sing with such intense longing. He delivered it with such a painful croon, almost haunted. That’s when I finally caught a glimpse of him.

Holy hell.

My recent encounters with punk rockers led me to believe they were all a bunch of ugly bastards so I was not expecting someone so—so—like him.

He was wearing a plaid green-and-black cap, but I saw his dark brown hair was cut close to his scalp. He looked so young and innocent at the same time. I pegged him to be in his late twenties. Maybe my age or a couple of years younger than me since I was about to celebrate the first of many twenty-ninth birthdays later this year.

I stood up on the rung of a stool to get a better look and that’s when I saw he was also playing bass guitar. He wore torn camouflage pants tucked into tall, black Doc Marten-style boots and held up by a silver-studded black belt. His torn black shirt sported the Velvet Cocks logo—a rooster wearing a smoking jacket and an ornate V and C, which appeared very Victorian and proper. Misdirection perhaps as to the actual naughty words? Tattoos galore extended from beyond his shirtsleeves. The whole combination gave him a hardcore look of a total badass. Dangerous and sexy.

On the Hunt with Ellora’s Cave Authors

wantedonthehuntWhen Ellora’s Cave posted a call for books in the On the Hunt theme, I couldn’t wait to get started. Hot books with bounty hunters? Sign me up!

And fortunately or unfortunately, depending on whether you asked me in November or December, I chose to work on this book during National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. This is a month where authors pledge to write a 50,000 word novel in November. On November 1st, I was raring go to. On November 4th, I thought I made a mistake. How on earth could I do this? I must have been out of my mind.

The more bloodshot my eyes grew and the more sleep-deprived I became, I started to see the end of the tunnel. Although I wasn’t sure I could even write 20,000 words at the beginning of the month, during the last week, I started to have fun with it. The more the characters revealed themselves to me, the more I loved the story. The premise I thought was fun–a young woman reinventing herself as a singer of an 80s metal band–my dream as a 16 year old, ha ha! Well, she happened to be a vampire and had no idea that a shapeshifting bounty hunter was tracking her down.

What was even more fun for me was how the characters clashed. Vampires and shapeshifters didn’t mix. Both Devon and Layla approached each other with caution as the enemy they were supposed to loathe. Their taunts were only a ruse to cover the mutual attraction they had for each other.

A forbidden attraction.

Below is the blurb for Bloodlust and Metal, the fourth book in my series with Ellora’s Cave called Underground Encounters. Enter my contest for a chance to win a digital copy of Bloodlust and Metal. Be sure to comment on what what think is hot/not so hot about bounty hunters.

Check out the other authors in this hunt. I’ve read the blurbs and can’t wait to read these hot bounty hunter stories.

And if you’re going to Romanticon in November, come check out our panel: Go on the Hunt with Ellora’s Cave authors. You’ll be going on a fun hunt yourself and could walk away with some great prizes!
